Disney+ has officially introduced a show on “The Lions of Sicily,” the best-selling book about the Florio family that was written by Stefania Auci and released in 2019. The US production company said that the filming was split between Rome and Sicily. The show’s director, Paolo Genovese, joined in writing the scripts alongside Ludovica Rampoldi.
The Lions of Sicily is the gripping tale of the Florio family. In it, we have two small-time spice traders Ignazio and Paolo who are siblings and they left Calabria stuck in the past and tried to seek social forgiveness. In Sicily, they see a future in which, out of a run-down shop, they create a prosperous business that Paolo’s small son, Vincenzo, will eventually grow into an empire with his innovative ideas.
But the arrival of Giulia, a powerful and brilliant woman who rejects the strict social mores of the time, overtakes Vincenzo’s life and the lives of the entire family.
The Lions of Sicily is an epic that takes place in 19th century Sicily and covers the years 1861–1861, covering wins, revolutions, conflicts, and love. Miriam Leone, Michele Riondino, Vinicio Marchioni, Donatella Finocchiaro, Paolo Briguglia, Eduardo Scarpetta, Ester Pantano, and Adele Cammarata star in the show.
The Lions of Sicily Plot
Before diving into The Lions of Sicily Episode 1, let’s quickly talk about the Italian show. The series “The Lions of Sicily” takes place in Sicily during the first part of the 1800s and ends with the unification of Italy. This will tell the story of the Florio family’s road to success.
The brothers Paul and Ignazio relocate to Sicily in quest of a better life after leaving Calabria. Their goal is to find social atonement, so they open a single spice shop in the capital of Sicily.
With the help of Vincenzo, Paolo’s son, and his innovative ideas, they quickly established a true empire. The young man Vincent Florio is troubled by the entry of the Milanese. She is a powerful and clever woman who always goes against the rules and Vincenzo tries to find refuge in her.
Without question, the Florio family was the most influential in Sicily and we will experience all of it in this show,. A few years after starting the Palermo spice shop, they started dealing in spices, took control of some of the traps nearby, purchased homes and land, and established a navigation company.
They are also responsible for the commerce of tuna in oil and box in Sicily and abroad, as well as the spread of Marsala wine. A lot more to talk about the show, but now let’s discuss when Episode 1 of The Lions of Sicily will be released and what will happen in it.
The Lions of Sicily Episode 1 Release Date
The Lions of Sicily Episode 1 will be released on 25 October 2023 on Disney Plus. At the time of writing, we don’t know how many episodes are scheduled for this first season but we think there will be at least 8 episodes like the other Disney Plus shows.
